Custom Residential Aquarium Designs

Custom Residential

Bring Another World Into Your Home

You put a lot of hard work into your home; why not bring another world into it?
We design custom aquariums that seamlessly integrate with your home for maximum visibility, space efficiency, and your unique design tastes.

For more than 30 years, our aquarium designers have built living centerpieces for homes across Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties. From a 60-gallon reef in a home office to a 5,000-gallon wall of water in a great room. Whatever the room, we design the tank around it, not the other way around.

Residential Aquarium Design Ideas

The Living Room Centerpiece

A freestanding or console-mounted tank sized to the wall it sits against. This is the most flexible starting point.
You get

In-Wall & Peninsula Aquariums

Built directly into a wall so the glass sits flush with the drywall, with filtration hidden in an adjacent closet, garage, or utility room. Peninsula versions push the tank out as a room divider: living room on one side, dining or kitchen on the other, with the aquarium doing the separating.

These take the most planning and deliver the biggest impact.

Kitchen Island & Bar Tanks

A low-profile tank set into an island, bar back, or breakfast counter. Sight lines matter enormously here, so we design the aquascape to be read from a seated height rather than standing.

Ocean-Inspired Reef Designs

If you want the South Florida reef look with branching corals, anemones, clownfish, and tangs moving through live rock, and a saltwater build with specific lighting and flow requirements.

We design the ocean scene first and then spec the equipment that keeps it alive.

Planted Freshwater & Aquascapes

The aquatic design tradition of driftwood, stone, and dense planting. Quieter, greener, and generally more forgiving than a reef, with a look closer to a river bend than a coral head. A strong choice for bedrooms, studies, and home offices.

Entryways, Staircases & Outdoor Living

Narrow columns, under-stair installations, and covered lanai tanks all work. They just need a designer thinking about heat, light, and access from day one. This is exactly the kind of problem we like.

Saltwater or Freshwater?

Both are fully custom, and neither is the “beginner” option once we’re maintaining it for you.
Saltwater gives you color and movement you can’t get any other way with reef fish, corals, and invertebrates. It asks more of the equipment: stronger lighting, precise flow, tighter water chemistry. Nearly all of that is handled by the system we design and the service plan that follows.
Freshwater opens up planted aquascapes, large display cichlids, and dramatic single-species tanks, usually at a lower build cost for the same footprint.
Not sure? Tell us the room and the look you’re after. We’ll tell you which one gets you there.

Glass or Acrylic

Glass is more scratch-resistant, holds clarity over decades, and is the usual choice for standard rectangular displays and smaller footprints.

Acrylic is lighter, stronger per inch of thickness, and can be formed into curves, bowfronts, cylinders, and seamless panoramic viewing panels. For large-volume tanks and anything that isn’t a rectangle, acrylic is typically the answer.
Size is rarely the limiting factor. Floor loading, doorway access, and where the filtration will live usually are.
We work those constraints out during the site visit, before you’ve committed to anything.

Why Choose Champion Aquariums for Your Space

“Most people who call me can’t describe what they want yet. That’s fine — that’s my job. Tell me about the room and how you actually live in it, and I’ll come back with something you didn’t know was possible.”

— Max Levine, Owner, Champion Aquariums

FAQs

How much does a custom aquarium design cost?

It depends on volume, material, and how much construction the install requires; a freestanding glass display is a very different project from an in-wall acrylic build with a filtration room behind it. We give you a firm number after the site visit, not a range over the phone.

Most residential projects run a few weeks from approved design to a stocked, stable aquarium. Fabrication and cycling account for most of that. Large in-wall builds tied to a renovation schedule take longer.

Usually, yes. It comes down to whether the wall is load-bearing, where the filtration equipment can live, and how we get water and power to it. That’s the first thing we assess on site.

No. Most of our design clients stay on a regular maintenance plan, which includes water changes, testing, cleaning, equipment checks, and livestock health handled by our technicians.

Anything from a compact accent tank to 5,000+ gallons. The practical ceiling is set by the structure of your home, not by us.

Yes. We design and service residential aquariums throughout Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties.
